Biography
Hillis Fern Heims, 93, of Monon, passed away at 10:10 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012 at his residence.
He was born July 29, 1918 in Reynolds to the late Otis and Marie (Groh) Heims. He attended Reynolds High School.
Hillis served in the United States Army from 1942-1946 in New Guinea.
His marriage was to Anne Bozich on November 8, 1947 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Reynolds. She survives.
He worked at Monon Crushed Stone Co. for 47 years, as well as the White County Highway Department, and was a member of the American Legion and Eagles #2788.
Hillis enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs baseball team and NASCAR.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters; Madelyn (Bill) Dowell of Lafayette and Patty (Tom) Brown of Cape Coral, Florida.
Also surviving are four grandchildren; Tammy Bruner, Tom Brown Jr., Christopher Brown and Michael Ellrich, two step-grandchildren; Gary Dowell and Becky Hayden and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, a brother, sister and step-brother.
Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Clapper Family Funeral Home of Monon. Mark Newman will be officiating; interment to follow at Bedford Cemetery of Monon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Monon Fire Department, Monon E.M.T.'s or the White County Council on Aging.
