Biography

Franklin J. Pace, 71, of Monon, died at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at Lafayette Home Hospital. He had been sick for the last five weeks.

He was born December 19, 1938 in Michigan City to John H. and the late Margaret (Perry) Pace. He was a graduate of Elston High School in Michigan City and went to college for Design Engineering.

His marriage was to Elverda Archer on December 6, 1980 in Medaryville United Methodist Church. She survives.

Mr. Pace started his career in design engineering at Joy Manufacturing in Michigan City and then worked for twenty eight years at Clark Equipment in Benton Harbor, Michigan until retiring. He later worked for Caterpillar in the Gas Engine Department where he obtained several patent awards for his work and a short time at Talbert Manufacturing in Rensselaer until fully retiring in 1998.

He loved spending time with his family and also liked to fish and hunt.

Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Terri Larson (husband: Dave) of Galesburg, IL and Tammy Lucero (husband: Tony) of Pueblo, Co; his father, John H. Pace of Trail Creek, IN; a brother, Ron Pace (wife: JoAnn) of Hopkins, MI; and three step-daughters, Diana Blount of Monticello, Peggy Barron (husband: Bill) and Laura Clause both of Monon and two step-sons, Robert Sheffer (wife: Jaime) of Valparaiso and Steven Sheffer of Monon.

Also surviving are many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death with his mother are two sons, Dale and Scott Pace; a step-son, Oral Sheffer; a son-in-law, Steve Blount; a brother, James Pace and a sister, Margaret Ann Pace.

Frank had a servant’s heart, always willing to help others and put them above himself. In keeping with his wishes no services are planned.
