Biography

Dorothy Lillian Sullivan Kissinger, 92, and lifetime resident of Kentland died Friday, February 5, 2010 at the Hearth of Avon, Avon, Indiana. She was born November 15, 1917 in Kentland to the late John W. and Emma (Swygman) Sullivan.
Mrs. Kissinger was a 1935 graduate of A.J. Kent High School in Kentland. She married Bill Nugent in 1935 and he preceded her in death in 1969. Her second marriage was to Herman Peters in 1970 and he died in 1973. Her last marriage was to W. Otis Kissinger in 1979 and he preceded her in death in 1991.
Mrs. Kissinger was the former Newton County Clerk and also managed the Hazelden Country Club of Brook, Indiana for several years.
She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Kentland. She also was Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and American Legion Auxiliary Post 23, both of Kentland.
She was also a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 1008 in Tucson, Arizona.
Dorothy is survived by a son, James Nugent (wife: Winifred) of Brownsburg, Indiana; a brother, Warren Sullivan (wife: Fay) of Kentland; five grandchildren, Cindy Reishus, Julie Moore, Timothy Nugent, Lisa Ross and Mike Nugent; a niece, Mary Ann Sullivan; two nephews, David and Calvin Sullivan; a sister-in-law, Ruth Nugent Ingles and a step-daughter.
Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Preceding her in death with her parents and husbands is a son, Robert Nugent; a brother, John H. Sullivan; a grandson, Gabriel Nugent and three stepsons; Steve Peters, Stephen Kissinger and William Kissinger.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 9, 2010 from 4-7 p.m. (CST) at the Stitz-Clapper Funeral Home, Kentland. Funeral Services Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church of Kentland; the Rev. Ed van Wijk to officiate. Interment to follow in Fairlawn Cemetery, Kentland.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Trinity United Methodist Church of Kentland.
