Life Legacy
Donald E. Alter, 83, of Remington, died at 12:20 a.m. Monday, February 1, 2010 at Heritage Healthcare in West Lafayette.
He was born on November 18, 1926 in Goodland to the late Christmas and Dorothy Price Alter, and was a 1944 graduate of Remington High School.
His marriage was to Marilyn May on December 30, 1950 in Remington. She preceded him in death on February 27, 1993.
Mr. Alter was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II. He lived in the Remington area all of his life where he and his family farmed and was a member of the United Methodist Church and was on the church board for several years.
Surviving are his children Roger Alter (wife: Peggy) of Wolcott, Linda Norris (husband: Roger) of Remington, Dale Alter (wife: Janet) of Remington, and Donna Cadwallader (husband: Roger) of Brookston; a sister, Carolyn Reffee (husband: Roger) of Roanoke, IN; and three brothers, Robert Alter (wife: Martha) of Newnan, GA, Dean Alter (wife: Katie) of Parker, AZ, and Ralph Alter (wife: Holly) of Surfside Beach, SC.
Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. (EST), Thursday, February 4, 2010 at Stitz-Clapper Funeral Home in Remington. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. (EST) Friday, February 5, 2010 at Remington United Methodist Church. Rev. Mary van Wijk to officiate. Interment will follow in Alter Family Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in memory of Donald to the United Methodist Church, the Alzheimer's Association or Serenity Hospice.
