Biography

Beverly L. Butler Coffin, 53, of Monticello, formerly of Reynolds and Wolcott, died at 8:45 a.m. Friday, January 15, 2010 in Lafayette Home Hospital. She had recently been diagnosed with cancer.
She was born January 6, 1957 in Monticello to Paul D. Nelson and the late Mary Louise (Buschman) Nelson and was a 1975 graduate of North White High School. She attended Ball State University to study Speech Pathology.
Her first marriage was to David L. Butler on November 27, 1976 in the Reynolds United Methodist Church. They later divorced. She then married Russell Emond on December 27, 1991 in Wolcott Christian Church. They also divorced. On June 19, 2004 she married Terry L. Coffin in Cedar Lake, Indiana. He survives.
She was a long time member of the Wolcott Christian Church, where she was a past Elder and youth group leader. She helped prepare and organize many church dinners. She was also a Gurnee Girl.
Mrs. Coffin and her husband operated the Bayside Resort in Monticello. Previously she worked at Tecumseh Middle School as a Para-professional for many years then Guidance Secretary for the last five. Prior to that she was a Customer Service Representative / Vault Teller at the Bank of Wolcott.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening, the Chicago Cubs and the Indianapolis Colts.
Surviving with her husband are her children, David P. Butler (fiancé: Denys Hollandbeck) of Lafayette, Matthew L. Butler (wife: Laura) of Battle Ground and Sara L. Evans (husband: Ryan) of Muncie; her father, Paul D. Nelson of Columbus, IN; and her siblings, Carol D. Belt (husband: John) of Columbus, IN, Michael D. Nelson (wife: Sherry) of Monticello, Kathleen A. Burbage (husband: Larry) of Lafayette, Debra L. Dourlain (husband: Bob) of Ft. Atkinson, WI, Jeffrey D. Nelson of Kokomo, IN and Tim S. Nelson (wife: Kime) of Columbus, IN; and her step-children Bill M. Coffin of El Cajon, CA, Lilly A. Sandoval (husband: Mark) of Henet, CA, Judy T. Jordan (husband: Robert) of Knoxville, TN, Jackie V. Smith (husband: Shawn) of Fairfield, CA and Angie V. Coffin of San Diego, CA.
Bev loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren, Dillon, Pamela, Payton, David Eli, Olivia, Marina, Raquel, Monique, Casey, Jillian, Jacob and Joshua.
Her love for the Lord and her church propelled her to help others and perform acts of kindness.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, January 17, 2010 at Wolcott Christian Church. Service there 1 p.m. Monday, January 18, 2010. Rev’s. Mark O’Brien and Jeremy Church to officiate. Interment to follow in Riverview Cemetery, Monticello.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
