Biography

Robert B. Schwartz, 84, a lifelong resident of Brookston, died at 3:56 a.m. Thursday, January 14, 2010 in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette. He had been a resident of St. Elizabeth Nursing Home in Delphi for the last couple years.
He was born January 4, 1926 in Brookston to the late Frank F. and Della (Morgan) Schwartz. He was a 1944 graduate of Brookston High School.
Mr. Schwartz served in the United States Navy from 1944 until his discharge in 1952.
His first marriage was to Mary Hanaway. They later divorced. He then married Shirley R. Jones. They also divorced. He later married Rosie Rosenbarger on February 28, 1973 in Delphi. She precedes him in death.
He worked at Jessup Paper Box in Brookston for 12 years retiring in 1988. Prior to that he worked for C&O Railroad for 12 years.
Mr. Schwartz was a lifetime member of the Monticello VFW Post #2231 and a member of the Delphi American Legion Post #75 where he was Club Manager for 4 years and bartender for 18 years.
He enjoyed the Chicago Cubs and playing cards, especially Poker.
Surviving are 3 daughters, Pam Ryves (husband: Tom) of Delphi, Patti Wilson Reyher (husband: Tony) of Dalhart, Texas and Vickie Dorton (husband: Curt) of Mexico, Indiana; 4 sons, Michael Schwartz (wife: Ellen) and Darrell Schwartz (wife: Brenda) both of Kokomo and Richard Schwartz (wife: Diane) and Ronald Schwartz (wife: Pat) both of Texas; a step-daughter, Debbie Hayden (husband: Gary) of Yeoman; two step-sons, Douglas Rosenbarger of Indianapolis and Donald Rosenbarger (wife: Janice) of Delphi; and four sisters, Ruth Robertson and Betty Monnett both of Brookston, Carol Davis of Perryoplis, Pennsylvania and Janice Morton (husband: Dave) of Orlando, Florida.
Also surviving are 22 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death with his parents and wife is a brother, Frank Schwartz Jr. and a sister, Jean Monnett.
Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, January 17, 2010 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home in Brookston. Service there 1 p.m. Monday, January 18, 2010. Rev. Dr. Lelan D. McReynolds to officiate. Interment to follow in Spring Creek Cemetery, Brookston.
